Rediscovering Domesticity: Nesting

Nesting

Well, it appears that nesting has set in.  It is amazing how God has created us.  It amazes me that there is a tiny human being growing in my belly.  It amazes me that God has chosen US to care for this precious baby.  After Little Man was born, it was as if my eyes were opened instantly to an entirely different aspect of God's character - God the FATHER.

For the past week or so, I have had this strong desire to organize my home and prepare for Baby's arrival.  Thankfully, I still have plenty of time as there are still boxes we hadn't had the chance to unpack after Little Man came.  I've been washing and hanging all Little Man's clothes up to size 2T so I don't have to worry about that when I am majorly sleep deprived again.  Next on the list - clean out our "captured" room - a small room off the master that we will use for Baby.  We have a dresser to move in there that will double as a changing table.  I hope to find a small end table at a garage sale this spring to use with our rocker.

Baby will spend the first 3 months or so right beside our bed.  After that, he will be in the captured room - still close enough so I don't have to go up and down our crazy steps to just cross the hall.  Once Little Man is in a toddler bed, Baby will move in to share a room.  We are so thankful that we have so much from Little Man - mostly given as gifts at our shower or as hand me downs.  We really don't lack much.

However, in my nesting mode, I feel compelled to make a list of some of our favorite things that we either want a second one or an upgrade, or a replacement.  In no way is this a plea for gifts.  It is simply a list to help me wrap my brain around our preparations.

Diaper Genie II Elite Pail System We have the Diaper Genie II Elite in Little Man's room.  I'd love one for our changing station downstairs to help keep the living room smelling fresh.

Graco Ultra Clear II 49MHZ Baby Monitor  We currently have a Fisher Price monitor that has been wonderful, but the big downside is that it has just one handset.  It goes through batteries quickly so we just plug it in, but that means moving it from floor to floor.  This Graco monitor seems to be what we are looking for - one handset for each floor.

Philips Avent Newborn Nipple, BPA-Free  I was very happy with the Avent bottles (once we learned how to keep them from leaking), but the nipples need to be replaced.  We use the newborn ones the whole time to prevent nipple confusion or preference when going between bottle and breast.

Blue and Brown Mod Dots Accent Floor Rug I'd love to find a rug of some sort.  The captured room has laminate floors that are chilly and noisy.  The walls are school bus yellow, so I'm sure we can find something that will work!  This one is really cute, but I'm not sure how it would look with the walls.  What do you think?

Mini Co-Sleeper Convertible Little Man got the shaft.  He had no armsreach cosleeper.  He slept in his carrier on the floor next to our bed.  He seemed to have some reflux issues and sleeping upright seemed to help.  We ended up cosleeping first on a couch then in our bed for ease of nursing.  This time around, I'd love to have Baby right next to me but a bit more safely.  There is a wonderful consignment sale coming up and I hope to find one there!  Baby could use this in his own room as well.  I think it would last him longer than a regular bassinet.

The First Years True Fit Convertible Car Seat, Casino  Little Man is still in his infant carrier - a Graco SafeSeat which goes to 30lbs and 32".  He'll need a new seat soon.  We want to keep him rear facing as long as we can and in a 5 point harness as long as we can.  This True Fit seems to fit the bill though I'm not set in stone.

Hmm - that list is a good deal shorter than I thought it would be.  Fantastic!  Do you have any favorite baby products that I might like?  Do you have a favorite sling or carrier?  A favorite car seat?  I'd love to hear!
