Rediscovering Domesticity: When Did YOU Deliver?

When Did YOU Deliver?

So, we are now in the home stretch!  37 weeks on Sunday!  I've been cleared to deliver at any time.

I am wondering when all of you delivered!  I realized at our last OB appointment that I really don't know how things go this far along in pregnancy!  Haha!

Did you deliver early?  Were you on time - within the "term" time frame of 37 - 40 weeks?  Were you OVERDUE?  Were you induced?  Did your water break?  How did you know you were in labor?  How long were you in labor?

Please share!  I love hearing about births!  As of now, my braxton-hicks contractions have picked up a bit but that's about it.  Maybe a Mother's Day baby?  We'll see!

Audra, I had pretty different experiences for all three of my babies. With Simon, I was 13 days past my EDD when he was born (I hate the term "overdue," since the due date is just an estimate anyway.) I was scheduled to be induced on Friday, had an NST on Wednesday that worried the doctors, had my water broken (AROM) at midnight and Thursday, and he was born after a pretty textbook labor at 7:35 that morning. In hindsight, I think I would have gone into labor on my own and could have had a totally intervention-free birth, but my doctors thought I was wacko for wanting to go natural and really weren't down with letting me wait. I came away glad that I had avoided a C. With Jackson, my water broke at home exactly one week before my EDD, around 7:30 AM. We had a wonderful hospital birth experience with a hospital and doctor who were very supportive of the natural experience we wanted. Jack was born at about 2 PM. With Lillie, I was probably in early labor on Tuesday, and woke to real contractions around 5 AM on Wednesday. I didn't really trust that was what was going on, because I was expecting my labor to start with my water breaking as it had with my other two. So, I was a little slow to call the midwife, who ended up barely making it in time! My water actually broke in the middle of labor, just before transition, and Lillie was born at home, into her daddy's arms, at about 8:15 AM. That was one week to the day past my EDD. Just goes to show that every pregnancy really is different!

I'll try not to make this too long (I ramble)...

I went to the hospital with pain on the last day of my 37th week. It was just after midnight) It wasn't contraction pain, but liver enzyme pain. (didn't know that at the time)

VERY long story made VERY short, I had developed HELLP syndrome and preeclampsia and had an emergency, knocked-out, tube down her throat, husband in another room waiting, c-section by noon that day. Baby was fine, but I was in the woods for two more days. (but evidently came through!!) :)

I can't wait to do it all again! *sans HELLP syndrome of course

We are all looking forward to your story.

I began contractions on a Sunday morning. they weren't super strong but very regular. i went to my mothers and visited. Of course everyone was so excited because Audra was my parents first grandchild. Finally, in the late afternoon we decided it was time to go to the hospital. Everyone went. Mom and my grandmother waited in the waiting room and Craig and I went into the labor room. Craig was told to pack a snack and to keep track of my contractions which he did faithfully. time marched on and at that time they did no want to give you an epidural unless there were problems. So, Craig has eaten all of his twinkies, mom and grandma are exhausted and I'm only 5cm dilated. It is now in the middle of the night. By morning the Dr. finally decided to break my water. Who would have thought. contractions now started hot and heavy. Remember this has been about 24 hrs of natural labor.
I'mexhausted and we're just getting into heavy labor. All I wanted was to be put to sleep and get the baby out. Well at 32 hrs Audra decided it was time. I pushed and pushed and low and behold the most beautiful baby girl appeared. She never cried, just looked around and took it all in. She looked exactly like the baby in my dreams. Craig and I looked at each other and were immediately in love with our Audra Michelle. She weighed in at 5lb 10 oz and was 18 in. long. When we took her home she was 5lb 6 oz, After I looked into her eyes all of the pain I had disappeared forever. Audra that love has grown by leaps and bounds. You are my daughter and most of all my best friend. I loveyou.

My first one I was 36 weeks having contractions I went in and my water broke. I couldn't dilate past 4 so they rushed me in for a c-sec. Gabriella was born Aug 25 2000 6lbs 4oz 18 in. Isabella was born Aug 6 2001 at 38 weeks. I also couldn't go further than 5 with her so another c-sec :( She was 6lbs 10oz 22 1/2 in. My son was just about 30 weeks and I didn't feel him move for over a day. I went in they did some test and he scored a half a point. They flew me to the nearest hospital with a NICU just in case. I started to contract and his heart rate was dropping so they had to take him via c-sec as well. He was 2lbs 15oz 15 3/4 in. My daughter was 37 weeks and 4 days. I lost my mucus plug a few days before I had her and on Jan 16th I was having contractions that were pretty uncomfortable. All night long they were getting closer and closer. Jan 17th when I woke up I had blood when I wiped and went in. They had me walk around and the contractions got stronger and stronger. They had me lay down and were giving me stuff to slow the contractions down since they said I would be having another c-sec. My water broke in the bed and the Dr came in. She said that she was going to let me have her natural! I was so excited!!! Then she felt and there was a foot there so she said that we were going to do the c-sec. I was bummed. While she was doing the c-sec she said that she was glad that she didn't let me have her natural since my uterus was tore a bit and would have ruptured if I did. My Teresa was 5lbs 11 oz and 18 in. I'm soo happy for you!!!
I'm having a giveaway on my blog that would be perfect for you! http://meandmineinasmalltown.blogspot.com/2010/05/nursing-reminder-bracelet-review-and.html
