World Breastfeeding Week

Welcome to World Breastfeeding Week!  As always, I am not writing to condemn those who have chosen not to breastfeed.  I just want to help share factual information and personal stories from those who have breastfed.  There is a lot of bad information out there in regards to breastfeeding - oftentimes passed along by well-meaning doctors and other medical professionals.

Throughout this week, you will see daily features about breastfeeding.  Throughout the month, you will see a continued focus toward breastfeeding education.  If you have breastfed and would like to share your story, no matter how hard or easy, to encourage others to give breastfeeding a try, please contact me at penguinelk at yahoo dot com and we can arrange a guest posting date.

To start the week, I'd like to ask you a question.  For those of you who have breastfed, why did you do so?

I initially chose to breastfeed because I saw myself as being somewhat crunchy - kind of a somewhat-all-natural mama.  Breastfeeding was natural, so I was going to do it.  Now, I continue breastfeeding because of the health benefits and the bonding.  I still give my toddler breastmilk in his sippy.
