Saturday Throwback: The Apartment

 This picture was taken in the field above the apartment where I lived for the first seven years of my life.  The flat roof is the apartment.  A concrete block building above a garage.  The roof behind (not the house you can see) is the house where Grandma and Pap lived.  We rented the apartment from them.  I loved the walks we'd take through the field to the neighboring farm.  I giggle thinking of the story of how my little brother landed in a cow pie on one of these walks.  Growing up, we lived outside - exploring and making forts on the fields.  My favorite place in the field was a small grouping of pine trees (planted Christmas trees!).  It was so dark and private in that group of trees - especially under the branches.  I remember walking up to that group with Pap one winter to cut the top from one of those pines to use as a Christmas tree.

That was a time when life seemed to go more slowly and we could just enjoy the beauty around us.
