Bloggy Basics: Adding Pages in Blogger

Do you find that your blog is getting cluttered? Or that things are jumbled and disorganized?

One great way to get things organized is by utilizing Pages in Blogger.  Pages allow you to add tabs to your blog that link to static pages (pages that you can add content to but not in the same way as you add content to your main blog page).  You can add tabs across the top like I did, or along the side.

Adding pages is quite simple.

First, think of what pages you would like to add. You can change them at any time. Blogger does limit you to a maximum of 10 pages with one page being "Home" that links back to your main blog.  I recommend each blog have an "About" page.  Tell your readers what your blog is about.  Tell them who you are and what you have to offer.  Having an "About" page gives your blog credibility.  Beyond that, add pages that best fit your blog.

To add a page, you will need to first create a page then add content.  Go to your Posting tab in your editor:

Click to edit pages.
Click on the blue button to create a new page.

Add your title and content.  Remember that your sidebars will remain the same as your main blog page.

Now it is time to decide if you want to allow comments on tis page.

At the bottom of the page editor is a "Post Options" link.

Click on "Post Options" to alter comment settings.

The page will default to not allow comments.  Change it if you so desire.  Preview your page and publish.

Next, go to your design page. You will see your pages listed under your header.

If you would prefer your pages listed down the sidebar, simply drag the "Pages" gadget where you would like it.  If you would like to change the order of your tabs, click on the "Edit" button on the gadget.  On this edit page, you can choose what pages to display plus you can drag and drop the pages into the correct order.

So, that is a simple way to add organization to your blog!  Use your pages to highlight past posts that deserve to be read. Make your blog easier to navigate.  Remember, the easier your site is to navigate, the more likely visitors are to return!
