Breastfeeding Myth: I Don't Eat Well So I Cannot Breastfeed

Some people believe that a mom needs to eat a perfect diet in order to provide appropriate nutrition for her baby.  This is simply not true.  Now, the mom will certainly benefit from eating well, however, the baby will not suffer because of it (unless nutritional deficiencies are quite severe).

Our bodies are amazing.  Nutrients for milk come from our diets.  If our diet is lacking, nutrients are pulled from our bodies.  Mom's health may suffer, but baby will have sufficient food.

Don't let lapses in diet affect your choice to breast feed.  If you are overly concerned about specific nutritional deficiencies, talk with your doctor for screening.  Make any dietary changes necessary to keep yourself healthy.  Trust your body to provide for your baby!  Nurse away!
