Breastfeeding Myth: I'm Pregnant and Not Leaking Milk so I Won't Be Able to Breastfeed

Lansinoh 60-ct. Disposable Nursing Pads
I spend a lot of time on Babycenter.com reading various forums.  I am currently part of three different birth boards.  On the May and June 2010 birth boards, I have been reading a lot of myths about breastfeeding.  One common one that keeps coming back up is the myth that if your breasts do not leak during pregnancy, you will not be able to breastfeed.

Thankfully, this myth is completely FALSE!

Here is a link about leaking during pregnancy.

It is normal if you do leak, it is normal if you don't!  Take heart, leaking has no bearing on ability to breastfeed.  If you leak, make sure you stock up on nursing pads to save yourself some potentially embarrassing moments!

I appreciate this! Even though I know it's a myth, I have so many worries about BF that I really wish I were leaking! I have seen some leakage, but not a lot. It's good to have reassurance. Thanks!

I am proof that this is a total myth as I did not leak once during my pregnancy. In fact my colostrum came in when I was 2 days postpartum. I'm almost 12 months postpartum now and breastfeeding has been great.
