It's a Crazy Life, but it's Our Life!

My posts have been fairly sparse lately.  We have been so busy!  With all the busyness has come craziness!  I wanted to share some of the recent craziness with you.

Shortly after Christmas, we were blessed with plane tickets from Hubby's parents.  They hadn't seen Little Man since he was just 3 weeks old and Hubby's younger brother had NEVER met him!  So, we got to experience plane travel with a toddler for the first time!  Add in very snowy and slick roads on the way to the airport at 4am plus overbooked flights where I had no seat or where we were not siting together, and you have some stressful travel!

Thankfully, we had planned well and packed well.  The airline was fantastic with rearranging passengers so Hubby and I could sit together (with Little Man as a lap baby) and even with giving us an extra empty seat on the 3-hour flights for Little Man to stretch out.  We were able to attach his carseat (still in the Graco Infant SafeSeat carrier which goes up to 30lbs and 32") to his stroller.  We put our carry-ons under the stroller and had a very easy trek through the airports.  Both were checked plane-side.  We were also able to board each flight at the same time as the first class passengers so we had plenty of time to get situated.

We had a wonderful visit with family.  The weather was amazing!  The two-hour time difference plus different schedule was a little hard on Little Man, but he was a trooper and was mostly quite happy.  He also LOVED having cats to chase!

Our return trip was quite interesting.  Little Man slept nearly the whole first 3-hour flight, which was simply fantastic.  For our second flight, just over an hour long, he was wide awake.  Thankfully, we had an extra seat in our row plus most of the row in front open.  Within the first 15 minutes of the flight, we saw the flight attendants start running.  A man had collapsed in the aisle.  Thankfully, there were several doctors and nurses on the flight.  From what we could see and hear, it seemed like a suspected stroke.  A mother who was with her 2 young children right where the man fell brought her kids back by us.  She told me that they didn't know if the man would survive through landing and she didn't want her kids to watch.  We had her 7-year old sit with us for the rest of the flight.  Right before landing, the doctor checked the man's heart and gave a thumbs up.  We waited at the gate for the paramedics to get this man off the flight and to the hospital (he was traveling alone).

Our drive home was uneventful despite the fact that it had been snowing non-stop since we left 5 days ago.  We were fairly confident in our new-to-us minivan with traction control and airbags everywhere.  Well, it turns out that the van has too much power to get up a slick hill without a good "running start."  Our hill is quite steep and has a sharp turn right before it gets steep.  Hubby tried three times to get us up the hill to no avail.  We backed down and parked a little over a block away on a flat street and lugged all our stuff up the hill to the house (Hubby was wonderful and went back down for our big suitcase).

As we got settled in our house, Hubby discovered we had no water!  The heat had only been turned down to 63 while we were gone.  Nothing in the house was frozen.  It had been in the 20's while we were gone so we feared a problem outside.  Of course, there is no way to get in touch with the water company after hours!

Stay tuned tomorrow for the conclusion of our crazy saga!
